Oliver North Appearance To Draw Protests At Murray State

Murray, Ky.—National Rifle Association President Lt. Col. Oliver North will be the featured speaker at a “Night Before Fancy Farm” fundraiser August 3, to be held on the Murray State University campus.
North’s appearance is sponsored by the Marshall and Calloway County Republican Parties and will be held at 6 p.m. at Lovett Auditorium.
However, a group called “Say NO to Oliver North” will be demonstrating on campus beginning at 5 p.m. The group is made up of Marshall County High School students and other concerned citizens who say their demonstration will be a peaceful protest.
Murray State is some 30 minutes south of Marshall County High School, where a deadly shooting occurred in January. Two students were killed and 14 were injured in the shooting. A 15-year-old student was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and 14 counts of assault.
Bobbie Foust, a spokesperson for the “Say NO to Oliver North” demonstration said not all the protestors are against the NRA or gun rights, but their main concern is safety of students.
The annual Fancy Farm picnic draws thousands of people each year and also draws local, state and federal politicians. It is always held the first Saturday in August.
