Mike Hutchens Inducted Into Tennessee Sports Writers Hall Of Fame

Nashville, Tenn.—Mike Hutchens of Union City was formally inducted into the Tennessee Sports Writers Hall of Fame in a ceremony Thursday evening at which he was cheered on by family and friends. Among those in attendance at Hutchens’ induction were former ballplayers who he had coached in the Babe Ruth League, including Tennessee Titans General Manager Jon Robinson, a Union City native.
 
Hutchens was the long-time sportswriter with the Union City Messenger and has co-hosted the local high school radio pregame football show on WENK/WTPR for more than 20 years. Hutchens now is the Director of Communications for Union City Schools.
 
The induction ceremony was held on the campus of Cumberland University.
 
Hutchens worked for The Messenger for 34 years and has won more than 165 individual writing, design and photography awards, along with being named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Writer of the Year four times.
 
Others inducted into the 2018 Hall of Fame Class included Mike Strange of the Knoxville News-Sentinel and Phil Stukenborg of the Commercial Appeal.
