Bass Cats Finish Strong At Bassmaster Tourney In Alabama

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Bethel University Wildcats had a strong finish in the Bassmaster Smith Lake Tournament held this past week near Cullman, Alabama.  The Bass Cats finished with three boats in the top twelve in the competition that featured a total of 250 boats.
Bethel’s KJ Queen and Dax Ewart finished in sixth place with a total weigh of 44 pounds, 5 ounces. Teammates Joe McClosky and Jason Felter came in at eighth place with fifteen Bass weighing in at 40 pounds, 15 ounces
Rounding out the top twelve finish for Bethel was Wilson Smith and Luke Lamb with a weigh of 31 pounds, 13 ounces.
Queen and Ewart moved into first place in the Bassmaster Team Points Race with their sixth place finish. The great finish will also keep the Bethel team in first place in the ACA School of the Year Points race.
“We are very proud of the way our team preformed during the Smith Lake Tournament”, said Coach Garry Mason. “Five out of our six anglers that finished in the top twelve for Bethel were sophomore and freshman anglers. That says that our recruiting efforts are paying huge dividends for our program.”
The team will now prepare for a head to head competition on Watts Bar Reservoir in East Tennessee with the Bryan College Bass Team.
“Bethel and Bryan are considered two of the best collegiate fishing teams in the country so this competition should bring a lot of great publicity to both programs,” said Mason.
