Clarksville, Tenn. – An adult and a juvenile, both out of Memphis, have been charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 22-year-old Serdarin Brown on the Austin Peay campus Sunday night.
On October 27, 2019 at approximately 10:10 pm, police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 16 Hand Village Avenue. There were spent shell casings located in the parking lot by Austin Peay University Police.
Prior to officers arrival, the shooting victim, Serdarin Brown had already been transported by car to Tennova Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined the victim was involved in a drug transaction to sell a small amount of marijuana to someone at Hand Village Avenue. A witness stated as they arrived at the location, two subjects approached their vehicle for the drug deal.
One of the subjects, a 17 year old juvenile, approached the driver’s door, pulled out a handgun, and demanded the victim’s things. The other man identified as Joshua Watkins, opened the passenger door and started rummaging through the car. At some point, the victim was shot.
Once Joshua Watkins and the juvenile had been pinpointed as suspects, they were both located at the apartments on Nolen Rd and detained without incident.
The juvenile and Watkins were both in Clarksville visiting friends. Joshua Watkins was identified as being responsible for setting up the drug deal.
Joshua Watkins has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with: criminal homicide and is being held without bond. The juvenile was charged with criminal homicide and transported to a juvenile detention facility.
