Monument Cleaning Day Set At City Cemetery

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Cemetery Committee is inviting the public for a Monument Cleaning Day at the historic Paris City Cemetery this weekend.
The cleanup is set from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, November 2 and the committee will provide the cleaning supplies.
Committee members said volunteers can come at any time and stay as long as they wish.
The Cemetery Committee has been working hard for some time at restoring and cleaning the gravestones at the city cemetery, which is the city’s oldest and is the final resting place for many of the city’s founders. Among those buried there are several members of Tennessee legend David Crockett’s family, including his son Congressman John Crockett and others; E.W. Grove; Governor James A. Porter and many more.
The committee has held fundraisers—including cemetery tours the last two summers which have drawn hundreds of people—to finance the project. In addition, family members of people buried there have donated funds to have their gravestones restored and/or cleaned.
The City Cemetery is located at the dead-end on Ruff Street next to the First Baptist Church parking lot.
