Henry, Tenn.–A three-vehicle wreck claimed the life of one person early Saturday morning on Hwy. 79S, with another victim airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
The Henry Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Hwy. 79S and Van Dyke Road at 6:11 a.m. According to the department’s press release, when they arrived, they found a semi laid over on its side, one vehicle on its hood and a third vehicle still upright.
Henry firefighters, along with Paris Firefighters and Henry County EMS extricated one patient from their vehicle while other victims were able to be removed without mechanical means, according to the Henry VFD.
Also responding was the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Both lanes of Hwy. 79S was shut down for several hours and traffic was re-routed around the scene.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team will remain at the scene this afternoon to investigate the accident.
“We ask that you use caution in the area of Van Dyke Rd as their crew works,” Henry firefighters said. “Our thoughts & prayers go out to the friends and family of those involved today.”
