Henry, Tenn.–A young Henry woman was killed in the three-vehicle crash that shut down Hwy. 79S for several hours Saturday morning.
The accident claimed the life of Alydia Hart, age 21. The accident involved three vehicles, which included a 2004 Peterbilt TT semi, which ended up on its side across the highway.
The report was released by Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Brad Wilbanks to WENK/WTPR.
The semi, driven by Darrell Taylor, age 52, of Bradford, was traveling north on Hwy 79 S. Hart was driving an Altima Nissan and pulled out from Van Dyke Road onto the north lanes of Hwy 79 S and was struck in the driver’s side door by the semi.
The semi pushed Hart’s vehicle into the south lanes on Hwy 79 S, overturning in the median in the process.
Meanwhile, a Nissan Sentra driven by Michelle Powers, age 45, of Dresden, was traveling south on Hwy 79 S. Powers’ vehicle struck Hart’s vehicle in the passenger door. Powers’ vehicle overturned in the south lanes of Hwy 79 S in the process.
One of the injured was airlifted from the scene to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The report indicates that both Powers and Taylor were injured, but does not indicate which was airlifted.
The initial THP investigation was conducted by Trooper Jason Mounts.
In a press release issued earlier Saturday, the Henry Volunteer Fire Department reported that one victim was extricated by Henry and Paris firefighters and the Henry Co. EMS.
