Union City High School Cheerleaders Make Their Mark in Return to Competitive Circuit

The Union City High School cheerleaders made their mark in their return to the competitive circuit after taking a year off.
UC received high grades all around with its routine and placed third in the Super Large Varsity Game Day Division at the Tennessee Extreme Regional Competition at Brentwood High School last weekend, according to a news release from Union City Schools.
The impressive showing earned the Tornado Squad a bid to the UCA National Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla.
Nov. 9 marked UC’s first-ever time competing in the Game Day Division. The squad had zero deductions during its performance and narrowly missed out on the runner-up spot with just a 0.5-point differential in their final total and that of the second-place finisher.
“We are all so proud of all the hard work the girls put in,” said Destiny Flood, one of four coaches/sponsors of the UCHS squad. “With taking a year off from competitive cheer and competing in a brand-new division, the girls had to put in a lot of extra time and they showed great dedication in doing so. To have no deductions is such huge accomplishment in a competition like this, and to do that with a routine like we have is a major feat.”
Members of the squad are Macie Atkins, Julianne Becton, Nicole Bone, Talea Buford, Briley Coffey, Emma Collins, Caroline Conley, Kamia Cross, Kaigan Davis, Alyssa Durham, Reagan Durkee, Angel Edwards, Leah Beth Faulkner, Amber Finch, Ashlyn Floyd, Samantha George, Laken Prather, Emma Ross, Yolanda Sims, Raegan Taylor, Haley Thomas and Annie Wade.
Teka Kennedy, Kim Sherwood and Halle Kennedy are all also coaches/sponsors with Flood.
Union City will next compete in the Southern School Championship Nov. 23 in Birmingham, Ala.
