Teacher's Assistant Arrested In Henry County

Paris, Tenn.–A Henry County Schools teacher’s assistant is being held on $100,000 bond after his arrest on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means.
Jaylon Bennett, age 19, of Depot Street in Paris, was arrested Friday by Henry County Sheriff’s deputies.
According to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office, Investigator Gary Vandiver responded to Henry School in reference to a complaint about a teacher’s assistant having inappropriate contact with a minor.
During the investigation, Bennett was brought to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning after which he was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means.
According to the release, Stewart County Investigators were also called in reference to another incident involving Bennett and another child on a school bus as it traveled through Dover. Stewart County charges are pending regarding that incident.
Bennett is scheduled to appear in Henry County General Sessions Court November 19.
Henry County Director of Schools Dr. Leah Watkins issued a statement on the arrest:
“The safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance. As such, matters such as this will be investigated quickly, thoroughly and resolved in a manner most supportive and safe for our students. The expectation of the system is that our employees will perform their duties professionally and with the best interest of the students in mind. Today, we have encountered a rare occurrence where the judgement used by one of our staff members was unacceptable. This is heartbreaking and intolerable and has been addressed swiftly and severely by the school system and the Sheriff’s Office.”
