Paris, Tenn.–A local organization dedicated to providing a safe place where someone facing an untimely pregnancy can receive support, information and care concerning major life decisions and an extraordinary husband-wife team who volunteer throughout the county were recognized at the annual Paris-Henry County Volunteer Center Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, November 15 at the Lee Academy for the Arts.
Jordan, Tommie and Brad St. John delivered a message to the attendees recognizing the incredible service provided to the community. The St. John family operate Sweet Jordan’s Ice Cream Shoppe which employs special needs personnel.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Travis McLeese presented the award for Volunteer Site of the Year to Tomorrow’s Hope Pregnancy Clinic, a local organization who has been grounded in Henry County for many years and is devoted to providing support and services to those facing pregnancy crisis. In addition to the resources provided to those facing these tough life decisions, they also provide a community thrift store that has recently expanded.
Assistant Director of the Industrial Committee Tara Wilson presented Michael and Josephine Phillips with the Volunteers of the Year award. From volunteering at school programs to REAL Hope Youth Center, Helping Hand and Salvation Army, it was said that both “have a desire to serve this community and deserve the recognition this award would give them.”
According to Wilson, “Each year, the hours that the volunteers consistently contribute are incredible. Without the selfless contribution of their time and talents, many of the sites would be unable to continue providing such important services to our community. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful community of volunteers.” Volunteers within Paris and Henry County contributed approximately 33,000 hours of volunteer service in 2018.
The Volunteer Center is a joint project of the City of Paris and Henry County, administered by the Paris-Henry County Industrial Committee.
Missy Hamilton accepted the award for Tomorrow’s Hope.
