Big Sandy, Tenn.–As the 2019 Tennessee deer season got underway Saturday, the Benton County Rescue Squad responded to a request for assistance for a deer hunter who had fallen from a deer stand in the Point Mason area of Big Sandy.
According to the press release from the Rescue Squad, the victim was located approximately five miles off road and had to be transported by Squad personnel to the awaiting ambulance in a side by side that is equipped to transport patients in rough terrain.
A Germantown firefighter who was hunting in the area assisted along with EMS personnel from West Tennessee Healthcare and the Benton County Sheriff’s department.
The Rescue Squad would like to remind hunters to wear safety harnesses and fall protection devices while hunting from elevated stands.
The hunter’s condition was not available Saturday evening. However, a Rescue Squad representative told WENK/WTPR that the hunter’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
