Teens Injured When Vehicle Lands In Creek

Mayfield, Ky.–Two teenagers were injured after their car went airborne and landed in a creek in Graves County Saturday.
Driver Alexandria Hawkins of Mayfield and passenger Taylor Balkey of Paducah, both 16, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the press release, Graves Co. Deputy Jamie Clark was dispatched at 10:09 a.m. to KY 1890 (Sharon Church Road) between Hayes School Road and KY 121 South for a vehicle collision with injuries.
Dispatch advised one passenger was possibly trapped and the vehicle was in about four feet of water. Upon arrival, the driver was out of the vehicle and the front seat passenger was still seated in the vehicle with her upper body elevated out of the water.
First responders were able to get both victims out of the creek and up the bank safely for transport. Through the investigation and evidence on scene, it was determined that the 2015 Land Rover, operated by Alexandria Hawkins, 16 of Mayfield, left the right side of the roadway on the shoulder. The vehicle then continued over a concrete head wall and traveled 400 feet on the shoulder to the east side of a creek bank. The vehicle then went airborne across the creek and impacted the west side creek bank head on and came to rest in the creek.
Both Hawkins and her passenger, Taylor Balkey, 16 of Paducah, were transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sedalia Fire Department, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, the Mayfield Fire Department and the Kentucky State Police.
