Main Street Christmas Returns To Huntingdon

Huntingdon, Tenn.–It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the city of Huntingdon invites everyone for a holiday extravaganza as Main Street Christmas makes its way to downtown Huntingdon Saturday, Dec. 14.
 
The day will begin at 2 p.m. with events located within The Dixie and on the Court Square. Activities will include music, photo ops, train rides, Santa and Mrs. Claus, “It’s A Wonderful Life” playing at the Court theatre, cookies, hot chocolate, hot cider, tree lighting, the annual Christmas parade, and meet-and-greets with The Grinch, Buddy the Elf and other characters.
 
Inside The Dixie, you will be greeted by the sounds of the season as Birdsong School of Music students fill the lobby with Christmas music. Within The Dixie’s Hal Holbrook Theatre, A.Wilson Photography will be capturing Christmas moments as children pose for ’Pictures with Santa’. The Dixie Carter PAC Gift Shop will also be open, and you can purchase tickets to upcoming Dixie performances at The Box Office.
 
On the Court Square, ISTEA train rides will travel through the streets of downtown, and a live nativity with accompanying church choirs will take the stage on the Courthouse steps. Mrs. Claus will make an appearance at the Colonial Tea Room, “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be playing at the Court Theatre, and First Presbyterian Church will be having an open house filled with cookies, hot chocolate, and hot cider. The Clark Street Baptist Church will host the Clark Street Soup Kitchen at FirstBank Activities Building which is free for the public to enjoy a meal and fellowship. A variety of local stores will be open for holiday shopping as well – many with Main Street Christmas specials.
 
Along with the downtown shops, the following pop-up shops will be set up around the Court Square – Urban Designs, Brookie’s Cookies, Jen’s Southern Style Boutique, TaylorMade4U, Double E Designs, King Print Co Biz, TennessippiHOME, WoodTurn Creations, Bishop Place Candles, Mudslingers Pottery Studio Potters (Paige Ward, Candace Gooch-Ward, Jessa Potts), The Crafty Nest, Dry Hollow Farm, Paige Espey Designs, Mallory Hope Designs, The Folksy Flowers, and Garden Key Co.
 
At 5:15 p.m., rain or shine, the town Christmas tree will be lit and include a small ceremony with the community joining together to sing Christmas songs at City Hall on East Main Street.
 
From 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. make your way to the Court Square for a special meet and greet with favorite characters including the Grinch, Buddy the Elf, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, and Goofy.
 
At 6:30 p.m. the Huntingdon Christmas Parade will begin. The parade route will begin on West Main St. and proceed to the Square and continue on East Main St., ending right after City Hall on 5th Avenue.  All parade entries will line up behind Carroll Bank & Trust before the parade begins. To participate in the parade, please call the Huntingdon Police Department at 731-986-5310 or come by the Public Safety Building to pick up an entry form. Prizes will be awarded to winning floats!
