Paris Man Arrested After Chase, Ramming Deputy's Cruiser

Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man is being held in the Henry County Jail on multiple charges following a police chase involving two agencies and which resulted in the suspect ramming a sheriff deputy’s cruiser.
Lawrence D. Crosser, age 56, of 622 Powell St., is charged with two counts of evading arrest–one involving Paris Police and the other involving the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and being an habitual motor vehicle offender. He is being held on $20,000 bond.
According to the reports, Paris Police attempted to stop Crosser around 3 a.m. Friday when Deputy William Whitaker took over the pursuit at Shady Grove and India Roads. Crosser drove his truck onto Hwy. 79N and then into Paris city limits, turned onto Chickasaw St., then Powell St., Curtis, Cooper, Greer and N. Poplar Streets and then onto Guthrie Rd.
At that point, Crosser almost hit another vehicle, then stopped in the middle of the road and Whitaker pulled up to Crosser’s side door and Deputy Sgt. Blake Jenkins pulled up to the rear of the truck to try to prevent him from jumping out. When the officers got out of their vehicles, Crosser put his car in reverse and rammed Jenkins’ cruiser.
According to the report, Crosser was then taken from his truck and an ambulance called to treat a cut on Crosser’s head, but Crosser refused treatment.
