New BPU Website Unveiled

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Paris, Tenn.—The Paris Board of Public Utility’s new website was unveiled officially at Thursday morning’s meeting and General Manager Terry Wimberley described it as “user friendly and looks modern” and provides BPU customers the opportunity “to do business with us they way they want to.”
BPU Communications and Marketing Specialist Meagan Hart designed the website’s new look and Wimberley said that was one of the main reasons she was hired last February. “She certainly has the skills in that area and the work she has done to rebuild the website has mostly been done in-house which is a cost savings to us. This was needed for some time. We can better control our message and we can update information for our customers immediately by having someone in-house in charge.”
In presenting the new website to the board members, Hart noted that more and more nowadays the public wants to do its BPU business online and the new site accommodates that. “More and more the only point of contact with us by the public is online,” she said. The new design makes it faster for the public to receive their information online and is “effective, easy to use and user-friendly,” she said.
BPU customers can easily make payments online and receive updated information on outages, but also have access to the multiple programs available to the public.
Hart said outages can be reported with the BPU app, but not yet online. “That is something I’m working on now,” she said.
Thursday’s meeting was begun with a prayer for WMUF/WLZK News Director Tim Alsobrooks, who died Saturday. Wimberley said, “Tim covered our beat for many years and we much appreciated him,” he said.
In other business:
–The board approved the bid by Security Bank for the main electric general account for calendar year 2020.
Three bids were received: Security Bank, 1.82 percent with no monthly service fee; Commercial Bank, 1.87 percent with a $900 monthly service fee; and First Bank, 1.5 percent with a $900 monthly service fee.
BPU Business Manager Charlie West said the $900 monthly service fee made the difference between accepting the Security Bank and Commercial Bank’s bids.
