Paris, Tenn.–The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released a preliminary report on the fatal accident which occurred early Thursday morning on Fairgrounds Road.
Identification of the driver has not been released, pending the Medical Examiner’s report. The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m.
According to Lt. Brad Wilbanks, the driver of a 2016 Nissan Versa was northbound on Fairgrounds Rd., negotiating a curve to the left. The vehicle traveled off the right edge of the roadway, over-corrected to the left side of the road, striking a tree head-on. After exiting the roadway and striking the tree, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
According to the report, the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
The section of Fairgrounds Rd. was blocked off on both sides by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office for a few hours while the investigation was being conducted.
