hist-soc-pete-wayne

Paris, Tenn.–During Thursday evening’s Show & Tell at the Henry County Historical Society meeting, Pete Lackey shows a rare piece of Russell’s Pottery to Wayne Webb. Russell’s Pottery was a former business in Paris. Several members brought items to be perused, including another interesting item from Russell’s Pottery that was brought by Webb–a memorial urn used to mark the final resting place of Lizzie Farris, 1859-1880, at Braswell Cemetery near Jones Mill.

Members also enjoyed looking at the 200-artifact Curtis Jackson Collection, recently obtained by the Historical Society. Items included are from local pharmacists, The Paris Medicine Co., J&T Laboratories, Peoples Coal & Ice Co., Ellis Heating Co., Tennessee Absorbent Clay Co., Farmers Bank of Puryear, Paris Dairy, Tyson and Co., Golden Peacock, National Toilet Co., soft drink bottling companies, The Pioneer House, Paris Landing State Park, Bingo Bait Co., Paris Livestock Co., Dudley Porter, Jr., and local business ephemera, such as matchbook covers.

The meeting was held at the Paris-Henry Co. Heritage Center.
