Nashville, Tenn.–Benton County Mayor Brett Lashlee was among the contingent of officials greeting President Donald Trump when he landed at the Nashville Airport Friday morning to begin his tour of tornado damage in west and middle Tennessee.
Trump was greeted by Tennessee Governor and First Lady Lee, Nashville Mayor John Cooper and other officials representing the areas that were hit by tornadoes earlier this week. He toured the tornado-ravaged areas with Governor Lee, the Putnam County Mayor and the Cookeville Mayor.
Six tornadoes have been confirmed to have hit along the 158 mile path, killing dozens, with the highest death toll in Putnam Co. The strongest tornado hit Putnam Co. and was an EF-4.
The tornado that hit Benton Co. was an EF-2 and killed one man and injured two more, with dozens of homes destroyed and/or heavily damaged.
Lashlee said, “We talked about the damage in Benton Co. and he already knew about our fatality. He then went east to Putnam Co.” to tour that area.
