Mayfield, Ky.– For law enforcement, you never know what will happen each day.

Graves Sheriff’s Deputies on Saturday afternoon received a call of a male deer that was stuck in between metal railing in a metal fence, on Central Road near the West Slaughter Road intersection.

Deputies believe that the deer had been stuck in this fence for several hours, most likely since overnight Friday.

The deputies utilized a jack from one of their patrol cars to free the deer. A towel was placed over the deer’s head and eyes to keep it calm.

The deer laid down for about five minutes or so after being freed. Then the deer garnered enough strength to then get back up and walk off into the a nearby wooded area. It appeared the deer was just suffering from exhaustion but appeared to be otherwise healthy.

Graves Co. Sheriff Jon Hayden said, “Thank you to Sgt. Dale Mason and Deputy Jamie Clark for showing a little compassion and freeing the animal.”
