Benton Man Sought After Double Fatality

Marshall County, Ky.–A Benton, Ky. man is being sought on several charges, including manslaughter, assault and drug charges, after a multi-vehicle collision Sunday that left two people dead.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for Kevin R. West. He is wanted on the following charges: Manslaughter 2nd degree, Assault 2nd degree, DUI, Careless driving, Trafficking in controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense-drug unspecified, Trafficking in controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense- methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, Possession of controlled substance, 3rd degree-drug unspecified.

The victims are: Randall Massey, age 59, of Calvert City, who was a passenger in West’s vehicle; and Youlane Cathey, age 82, of Benton, who was in another vehicle.

According to the press release from the sheriff’s office, at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to a multi vehicle injury collision at the intersection of U.S. 68E and Moors Camp Highway.

Upon arrival responders learned that several occupants from two different vehicles had sustained injuries and were being transported to local hospitals by ambulance and helicopters.

During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Randall D Massey age 59 of Calvert City had succumbed of his injuries. Mr. Massey was the passenger of the vehicle driven by Kevin R. West of Benton.

Deputies suspected that West was under the influence at the time of the collision and initiated a DUI investigation of West at the same time he was being treated medically.

As the investigation progressed deputies were made aware today by a medical facility that Youlane S. Cathey age 82 of Benton Ky, one of the four occupants in the other vehicle had also succumbed to her injuries while at their facility.


West was not taken into custody at the time of the incident due to receiving medical treatment at Vanderbilt Medical Center. West has since left that facility and is being sought on a warrant of arrest for numerous charges to include:
