
Rapidly moving development with the Coronavirus pandemic have prompted cancellations this morning of the basketball tournaments for the Power 5 leagues — the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12.
Also announcing that their tournaments would not be played were the American, Atlantic 10, Conference USA, MAC, America East, Big Sky and WAC.
The Southeastern Conference canceled the remainder of their tournament in Nashville, as well as regular season competition until March 30.
The SEC Conference announced on Twitter.”Based on the latest developments and the continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Southeastern Conference today announced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 Men’s Basketball Tournament in Nashville.”
The Big Ten Conference announced their tournament is cancelled, effective immediately.
The Big Ten organization issued this statement: “The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus.”
The Big 12 reported all their Conference championships have been suspended until April 15.
The Big East Conference quarterfinal game was cancelled during halftime.
