Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved a request for a sign variance for Forever Communications at 206 N. Brewer St.
The location is the former home of Radio Station WTPR and will now house both the WTPR and WHNY (former WMUF) radio stations.
Brown Signs in Paris requested the variance of the sign ordinance to erect a 3 ft. x 5 ft. (15 sq. ft) sign in front of the building.
Community Development Director Jennifer Morris explained to the board, “Our sign ordinance does not allow a stand-alone sign in the B-2 Central Business District. Most properties in the downtown footprint are zero lot line. There are a few exceptions where there are buildings that are not zero lot line and do have grassy areas.”
In this case, she said, the building is not in line with the other buildings on this block. Therefore, a sign on the front of the building would not offer the same visibility as the other signs along this street.
