Huntingdon, Tenn.–Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler was notified by the State Department of Health today that a county resident has a confirmed case of Coronavirus.
Butler said the resident tested positive and has a mild course of the virus, is quarantined and recovering.
Meanwhile, the Carroll County Office complex and Carroll County Courthouse are on lockdown. The offices are open, but closed to the public. A lockbox is being placed outside for citizens to drop payments or other information.
In his statement, Butler said the news that a resident has the Coronavirus was not unexpected. He said county officials have been “preparing for and expecting this for weeks”. He said county officials are monitoring the situation and are coordinated with the Tennessee Department of Health and local health care professionals “to ensure that all Carroll County residents are protected.”
He said, “The worst thing we can do during trying times like this is panic and lose faith.” He implored everyone to remember that the “vast majority” of patients who contract the Coronavirus have a mild course and recover quickly.
Butler said county officials will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and will adapt its response as appropriate.
Details on the age or gender of the patients are not released by the State Department of Health.
