Mayfield, Ky.–A Graves Co. juvenile was arrested on a charge of attempted murder of a police officer after a chase in which the juvenile rammed a Kentucky State Trooper’s cruiser.
At approximately 11 p.m. Thursday, Kentucky State Police Trooper Austin Ramage assisted the Graves County Sheriff’s Department in pursuing a reckless vehicle near the Pryorsburg area of Graves County. As the deputy and Trooper Ramage attempted to stop the vehicle, a white 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck, the vehicle fled south on US HWY 45 toward Wingo. The vehicle turned left onto Lebanon Street, then headed east on KY 339.
Trooper Ramage at that time, was the lead vehicle in the pursuit. In an attempt to cause Trooper Ramage to strike the rear of the vehicle, the operator of the suspect vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed before applying its brakes.
Trooper Ramage made an evasive move around the vehicle to avoid striking it. The suspect vehicle then began striking the rear bumper and passenger door area of Trooper Ramage’s cruiser. Trooper Ramage slowed down in order to allow the suspect vehicle to pass, but the vehicle struck the driver’s side of Trooper Ramage’s cruiser. The pursuit continued for approximately 3 miles on KY 339 before the vehicle turned south on Pritchard Road and traveled into a muddy field where it was abandoned.
Troopers and deputies searched the area on foot and were able to locate the driver, a male juvenile, at a residence in the 4000 block of Pritchard Road. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
The juvenile was charged by the Kentucky State Police with (Attempted) Murder of a Police Officer, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, and Fleeing or Evading 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle). Graves County Sheriff’s Office also took charges against the juvenile related to their portion of the incident. The juvenile was lodged in the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.
