Fulton, Ky.–After seeing smoke and fire coming from the eaves of a residence on Kentucky Ave., in Fulton, Police Officer Austin Matheny was able to help evacuate three people from the residence, including a young child and infant.

After seeing the fire coming from the roof, Matheny notifed the Fulton Fire Department of the fire and was met in the driveway by a resident of the house, who was returning from a store.

The male resident informed Officer Matheny that there was an adult female inside the residence along with a young child and an infant. Officer Matheny and the male subject entered the residence through heavy smoke and were able to evacuate the occupants.

According to the Fulton Police Department, the female refused medical attention and the children were evaluated by the Ken Ten Ambulance Service and released. The fire was extinguished by the Fulton and South Fulton Fire Departments.

“The Fulton Police Department is proud of Officer Matheny’s courage to act this morning and we are thankful that he serves the citizens of Fulton everyday,” according to the press release.
