Mayfield, Ky.–A Mayfield man is jailed on numerous charges after a wild chase in which he almost hit a police officer.

Robert B. Marshall, age 28, is charged with fleeing/evading, wanton endangerment on a peace officer, DUI, criminal mischief and reckless driving among other traffic charges.

On Sunday, April 12, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a red Dodge Caravan in Mayfield due to the operator’s family requesting a welfare check on him. As Deputy Brandon Awbery conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, the operator, who was Marshall, attempted to flee in his vehicle, almost striking Deputy Awbery’s vehicle.

According to the press release, deputies pursued Marshall southbound on North 12th Street until he crossed West Broadway. Marshall collided with and ran through a locked gate and fence at the old Mayfield Building Supply and continued through the lot. Marshall then ran through a second locked gate on the same property and began driving south on the railroad tracks in the area of South 12th Street and West South Street.

Marshall continued southbound on the tracks until the van he was driving became disabled after striking the area where the train tracks cross West Walnut Street. Marshall fled on foot but was located by Deputy Chanlder Sirls a short distance from the vehicle. Marshall was taken into custody. He was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Marshall was then lodged in the Graves County Jail.

He was charged with the following:

Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree on a Peace Office
Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree
DUI 1st Offense with an Aggravated Circumstance
Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
Reckless Driving as well as other traffic charges.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mayfield Police Department, the Kentucky State Police and Mayfield/Graves County EMS.
