LIFELINE Now Accepting Plasma From Survivors To Help Heal Patients

lifeline-blood

LIFELINE Blood Services is now able to supply a special blood product that may be able to help those suffering from severe cases of COVID- 19.

Along with other blood centers, LIFELINE is working to support this lifesaving experimental treatment for these critically ill patients.  This product is called Convalescent Plasma.

LIFELINE Blood Services is collecting plasma, a part of the blood, from healthy people who have previously been sick with COVID-19. Individuals who have contracted COVID-19 and are fully recovered have developed antibodies to the virus.  LIFELINE will collect the plasma from the COVID -19 survivor blood donor and  this plasma can be given to someone who is critically ill with COVID-19.   The hope is that the antibodies in the plasma will help fight the virus in the patient who is sick.  To be eligible to donate Convalescent Plasma, individuals must meet all regular blood donor requirements and be completely symptom-free for at least 28 days as well as meet additional qualifications.

Those who have had a confirmed case of COVID-19, have since experienced a full recovery and are interested in donating  plasma for this program, may contact LIFELINE Blood Services at 731-633-0255 or visit the Convalescent Plasma page on our website, www.lifelinebloodserv.org.

LIFELNE Blood Services is grateful to have this opportunity to help our community provide another blood product that can help save more lives.
