Mayfield, Ky.–A Mayfield woman and Paducah man were arrested on multiple charges–and the woman is accused of assaulting a jailer–after a one-car accident Monday evening in Graves County in which the car landed on its roof.

According to the press release from the Graves Co. Sheriff’s Office, on April 20th, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Chief Deputy Davant Ramage and Deputy Chandler Sirls responded to a single vehicle collision with injuries in the 1000 block of Spence Chapel Road.

Deputy Sirls’ investigation concluded that the operator, Jamell Diaz, age 19 of Paducah, was traveling south on Spence Chapel Road and he failed to negotiate the sharp curve in the area of Mathis Orchard Road. This caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest in the ditch on its roof.

Deputy Sirls determined that Diaz was under the influence while operating the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

While conducting the investigation, two passengers, a juvenile and an adult female, Nikea Cope, age 21 of Mayfield, became irate. As a result Chief Deputy Ramage placed Nikea Cope under arrest.

During a search at the Graves County Jail, deputy jailers located suspected marijuana, Xanax and Gabapentin on Cope. Once Deputy Sirls brought Diaz to the jail, Diaz became disorderly and assaulted a deputy jailer. The following charges were filled on Diaz and Cope.

Jamell Diaz: DUI 1st Offense, Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree

Nikea Cope: Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree, Public Intoxication, Promoting Contraband 1st degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Possession of Marijuana.
