Murray State’s ‘Racers Give’ Assists Students In Need

msu-bridge

Murray, Ky.–Murray State University’s “Racers Give” campaign will continue assisting students who are in need of financial assistance through the newly-established Racer Sustainability Fund. The campaign hopes to raise at least $250,000 in private support to assist both incoming and current students beginning this fall with tuition, housing, dining and textbook expenses. As part of the campaign, the Murray State University Foundation has approved $100,000 in additional need-based scholarships to be used for students.

Murray State President Dr. Bob Jackson, along with wife, Karen have made a gift of $10,000 toward the campaign. Other administrators, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University have also made considerable gifts to match these new funds, including Murray State men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon and wife Mary with a gift of $10,000, as well as Murray State University Board of Trustees Vice Chair Harold Doran and the Doran Foundation with a gift of $25,000. Additional gifts are in process and will be announced in the days ahead.

“During times like this, we have a duty to assist our students and others in need,” said President Jackson. “We are very grateful to the Murray State University Foundation for an additional $100,000 in scholarships for this fall. Karen and I are pleased to make our gift as we work to match these new scholarship funds in order to raise $250,000 or more in scholarships for students coming to Murray State. Please join us in this effort. In advance, I want to thank our alumni, friends, faculty and staff, and the broader campus community as we raise these funds.”

“The Murray State University Foundation is very proud to assist President Jackson in this time of need,” said Jerry Shroat, Chair of the Murray State University Foundation Board of Trustees. “We hope that other Racer alumni and supporters will continue to help the University. The MSU Foundation will continue its efforts to support the University, which is our main mission. I am proud of our Board for their ongoing support of Murray State through their own generosity as well as the Foundation’s approval of $100,000 toward this campaign.”

“Mary and I are honored to partner with Dr. Jackson, the Murray State University Foundation and others to support need-based student scholarships,” McMahon said. “During these challenging times, the support shown by many through this initiative exemplifies why Murray State is truly a student-centered institution.”

Current students are encouraged to register for fall classes by speaking with their academic advisor (new, incoming freshmen will register for classes as part of their Summer Orientation experience).

Both new and current students can register for one or more summer classes, as more than 300 online classes are available in convenient, short-term formats. Additional information is available at murraystate.edu/summer.
