Dover, Tenn.–Tennessee’s State Parks will be reopening this weekend, but officials at Fort Donelson National Battlefield are waiting work from the National Park Service as to when it will reopen.
Meanwhile, Park Superintendent Brian McCutchen issued a thank you to the public “for your patience and cooperation as we made adjustments to operations and access because of the current health challenge before us.”
Park officials are anxiously awaiting the park’s opening, too, he said. “Like many of you, we look forward to the reopening of the battlefield. We enjoy seeing and visiting with those that are local to the community and the surrounding area; those from across the great State of Tennessee; those from all parts of our nation, and those from around the globe. Fort Donelson National Battlefield is a special place, not only in its significance to American history – but for often significant or meaningful for various and often personal reasons, to those that visit.”
Presently, the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service are working on a comprehensive plan to reopen closed facilities, units, and lands, when appropriate and in accordance with federal, state and local public health guidance. When the guidance indicates, we will be prepared to reopen as appropriate and as safely as possible, he said.
