Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man has been arrested on charges of evading police following a chase in which he slammed his vehicle into a retaining wall and continued running on foot.

Christopher J. Gibson, age 27, of 110 Whiskey Ridge Lane, turned himself in at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued for his arrest earlier by Paris Police Lt. Josh Frey.

According to the report, Frey was conducting radar on Tyson Ave. when he observed a Dodge 2500 pickup southbound traveling 66 mph in a 40 mph zone early Sunday evening.

As Frey pulled out, the pickup sped up and turned onto Spruce Street off of Mineral Wells Ave. As Frey turned onto Spruce, he saw the truck turn onto Whiskey Ridge Lane and could hear the truck accelerate again.

According to the report, the truck then turned into a driveway on Whiskey Ridge, turned its light off and Frey said he heard a loud noise and when he reached that point, he saw the truck had struck a concrete wall head on and saw a man jump out of the driver’s seat and run into the woods.

Frey found a man in the passenger seat, asked him whether he was hurt and questioned him as other police units arrived.

Frey and Patrolman Daniel Andres searched the woods for the suspect but could not find him. The report indicated that while Frey was typing out the warrants for Gibson’s arrest, Gibson came to the police department and spoke to him, saying he had run because he was scared.
