Obion County, Tenn.–Obion County Central High School and South Fulton High School will be cancelling Prom for both schools this year, but both high schools will be holding their graduation ceremonies May 22.

Obion County Director of Schools Tim Watkins said the proms are cancelled for this year because  “Due to the social distancing guidelines that have been recommended by federal and state health officials, there is not a date in the foreseeable future that would allow the events to be held under the current guidelines.”

However, both High Schools will have Graduation on May 22nd.  Each senior will receive six tickets to distribute among family and friends.

Watkins said, “No one will be admitted to either graduation ceremony without a ticket.  Each school will have seating designated at their respective venues for guests that keeps with distancing guidelines.”

South Fulton’s Graduation will be at 5:30 pm and Obion County Central’s Graduation will be at 7:30 pm.  Principals or Counselors will be contacting the seniors with further information about practices, graduation materials, and ticket distribution.

“I am well aware that this is not the situation that anyone envisioned for the Class of 2020.  After weighing all options, available information, and student input; I feel that this decision is the best option for us to celebrate the Class of 2020 in a manner that they deserve.  In the event of inclement weather, Obion County Central’s Graduation will be postponed until June 5th.  No student or staff member will be required to attend either ceremony.  If a senior or staff member does not intend to attend the graduation ceremony, they need to inform their respective principal,” Watkins said.
