Paris, Tenn.–Henry County High School Principal Michele Webb announced Friday evening that school officials have decided to postpone graduation until May 29. In her announcement, she said she realizes that the decision will sadden everyone but that it is based on guidance from state and local levels and recommendations from local leaders and the healthcare community.
Here is Webb’s announcement:
“These past few months have taught us that nothing is for certain. When Governor Lee announced that graduations could take place, we were elated that we would be able to offer this momentous celebration for our seniors. With the gradual reopening that began today, we have received additional guidance from both the state and local levels. Based on recent recommendations from our local leaders and healthcare community, we have decided that it is in the best interest of graduates, spectators, and the community to postpone graduation until May 29th. I’m sure this announcement saddens everyone and frustrates many. We are proceeding out of an abundance of caution and hope that you will understand.
“At this time, we are proceeding with our plan of 4 tickets on this rescheduled date. However, there is a possibility this will be adjusted to a lower number of tickets or a graduates-only event with a live-stream available for all. We will continue to seek the guidance of our local officials and communicate decisions to you in as timely of a manner as possible.
“Students who will be leaving for the military before May 29th or others who have extenuating circumstances will have the opportunity for alternate arrangements. Please contact me for more information.
“We will continue our Friday Night Lights until graduation and the other celebrations for our seniors. We are tremendously proud of them and know you are too.”
