Dover, Tenn.–Senator Bill Powers, Stewart County Mayor Robin Brandon and Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray recognized Garrett Rye from Clarksville Monday night at the County Commission Meeting.

Garrett, a student at Austin Peay University and a previous member of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Explorer’s program was honored for his bravery and willingness to assist law enforcement.

Sheriff Gray made a traffic stop in February during which the driver resisted arrest and became aggressive. Garrett assisted the Sheriff in getting the suspect handcuffed. The subject was found to have past violent history including assault on a police officer.

The Sheriff’s Office and Mayor Brandon presented Rye with the Sheriff’s Award.  Senator Bill Powers presented him with a State Proclamation sign by the Lt. Governor.   Deputies from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were also in attendance.
