McKenzie, Tenn.–The suspect in the shooting of an 18-year-old in McKenzie Wednesday has been apprehended by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and other law enforcement.
Malcolm Lee Jr. was taken into custody shortly before noon today (May 29) and charged with attempted First Degree Murder. The victim is in critical but stable condition at an area hospital after being shot some 7 times on Union Church Road in the McKenzie area of Weakley Co.
Lee Jr. was arrested during a traffic stop in McEwen. The U.S. Marshal’s Service obtained information about a vehicle the suspect was driving after he fled from a house in Martin and a BOLO was issued. The traffic stop occurred about 30 minutes later.
Two other people have been charged in the case: Mary Beth Lyles, age 20, of Martin, charged with filing a false report after she lied to a U.S. Marshal and made a phone call warning Lee; Katie N. Smith, age 22, of Martin, charged with accessory after the fact after she obtained the vehicle and was in the vehicle with Lee when he was arrested.
Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan said more arrests may be forthcoming.
