Peaceful Protests Set Today, Tuesday Evening In Paris

paris-rally

Paris, Tenn.–Dozens of people gathered in downtown Paris Sunday for a peaceful protest to draw attention to the George Floyd case and they will return around 3 p.m. today (June 1). At Sunday’s gathering, both the Paris Police and Henry County Sheriff’s Office brought water and ice and several people stopped their cars to provide snacks.

A separate rally sponsored by a newly-formed group, “Take A Stand Paris” will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the courthouse. Organizer Jennifer Lee said people are donated water and snacks and she will have poster paper there for people who want to make a sign. She said a preacher will be coming to say a few words.  Lee said she will have a few t-shirts available.

For several days since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the arrest of the police officer in the case, protestors have gathered with signs in downtown Martin and a silent vigil is also set for 8:30 p.m. tonight outside Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray.
