UCPD Seeks Info On Statue Vandalism

Union City, Tenn.–Union City Police are investigating vandalism to the statue in Kiwanis Park over the weekend.

Someone spray painted several messages on the statue, including “Black Lives Matter”, “BLM” and “HATE”.

Assistant Union City Parks and Recreation Director Robin Francis said there are surveillance cameras in Kiwanis Park and one points to the monument.

He said the city is not only looking for who painted the graffiti sometime Saturday night through Sunday but also looking for whomever removed the tarp that the city had used to cover the damage on Sunday morning. The tarp was removed Sunday afternoon.

“We have talked with monument companies about what they use to remove materials like spray paint on a granite surface,” Francis said. “The monument company reps are confident that we will be able to get the graffiti cleaned off”.

Anyone with information are urged to contact the Union City PD at 1 731 885 1515.
