Paris, Tenn.–During an operation today by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Rescue Corps, some 45-50 dogs were rescued from a home on Jackson Drive in Paris.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Animal Rescue Corps, responded to a complaint of animals living in unfit conditions at 180 Jackson Dr.

According to Captain Adam Jenkins, when officers arrived on scene they spoke to the residents, Jonathan and Iola Gannon. Officers could immediately hear numerous dogs barking inside the residence and could smell an odor which was consistent with a large quantity of dogs inside.

“After speaking to Jonathan and Iola and explaining to them why we were there the dogs were voluntarily surrendered,” he said.

During the investigation a test was performed which revealed the ammonia levels in the residence to be 150 parts per million which is more than 30 times the safe living recommendation for humans and animals. At the conclusion of the investigation 45-50 dogs were rescued and were given safe shelter by the Animal Rescue Corps.

According to Animal Rescue Corps, approximately 50 Chihuahuas and small terrier mixes, including both adult dogs and newborn puppies, are being rescued from the property.
