Paris, Tenn.–The city of Paris today announced the appointment of Police Captain Ricky Watson to the position of Assistant to the Chief of Police, effective immediately. Watson will be elevated to the position of Police Chief upon the retirement of Chief Charles Elizondo when he retires December 31.
The Assistant to the Chief position is interim and Watson will receive guidance and training in preparation of Chief Elizondo’s departure from the department.
Assistant Chief Watson began with the Paris Police Department in November, 1999 as a patrol officer after serving with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department for three years prior. Since joining the department he has served as a patrol officer, a K-9 Handler for 7 years, Criminal Investigator, member and later officer of the Metro Crime Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 and again promoted to Captain of Operations in 2017.
City Manager Kim Foster emphasized that the city had an excellent field from which to choose, which made the decision very difficult.
Foster said she has great confidence in Assistant Chief Watson for his ability to serve in this capacity and ultimately as the Chief of Police for Paris.
“He has done an excellent job in his former positions with the City displaying dedication, leadership and knowledge of the department,” she said. “Our City is very fortunate to have a department that demonstrates the professionalism that the Paris Police Department possesses. We are looking forward to working with Assistant Chief Watson as he transitions into his new position”.
