Frankfort, Ky. — Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday afternoon that bars in the state are to close for two weeks and that restaurants are to limit indoor seating to 25 percent capacity. Additionally, Beshear is recommended public and private schools in Kentucky wait until at least the third week of August to start in-person classes.

The steps were announced in efforts to slow the increase of COVID-19 cases across Kentucky.

Bars in Kentucky will close tomorrow, at which time restaurants will be restricting indoor seating to 25% capacity. Outdoor seating for restaurants can remain at their current capacity, but with social distancing in place.

Gov. Beshear’s announcements followed a meeting with Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force on Sunday. Beshear said the White House and Kentucky state government agree addtional statewide action is necessary to curb the virus.

Earlier, a 30-day mask mandate went into effect in Kentucky July 10.

Additionally, Beshear said he is recommending that public and private schools in Kentucky wait until at least the third week of August to start in-person classes.
