Union City, Tenn.–Union City volleyball continued its strong early-season run, improving to 4-1 overall and remaining unbeaten in district play with a 3-1 victory at Trenton Thursday.
After dropping a hard-fought 28-26 decision in the opening game, the Lady Tornadoes roared back to win three straight (25-10, 25-11 and 25-11).
Anna Lynn Cheatham finished with 22 attacks to pace the Twister girls, who got stellar efforts from several players.
Both UC golf teams were also winners on Thursday at Poplar Meadows Country Club, the girls topping Gibson County 110-117, and the boys (169) getting the best of GC (186) and South Fulton (211) to add to their respective victory totals.
Carter Walton (39) and Mimi Jenkins (49) were match medalists for the Purple and Gold.

VOLLEYBALL
UC 3, Trenton 1
Marlee Johnson, Abby Suiter, Kaigan Davis and Raegan Taylor joined Cheatham combined for 59 attacks to follow Cheatham and contribute greatly to the victory for Union City.
Samantha George delivered 61 sets in the four games, while Erin Oatsvall and Emma Parks also hustled for several sets.
Defensive coverage was provided by Annie Wade, Sara Ullrich and Chloe Pritchard.
The UC jayvee team dropped both its games to Peabody, falling 25-22 and 25-14.
Parks had seven kills as a middle hitter, while Emma Powell and Lainey Barker were credited with strategic setting. Bayleigh Long and Morgan Palmer provided good defensive coverage.
Union City will be back in action Monday, hosting Ripley.
GOLF
Tornado linksters roll
Walton’s score led a solid contingent for Union City as Mason Reed shot 42, Nolan Chandler finished with a 43 and Reese Paschall came in with a 45. Gabriel Qualls registered a 49.
Landon Hauhe had a 45, Jack Tully shot 60 and Hayden Searcy carded a 63 for the Twisters.
On the girls’ side, Olivia Tanner (61) and Addi Hooks (67) followed Jenkins’ match-best score.
Molly Kizer (51), Bailey Nichols (56) and Julianne Becton (57) rounded out the UC scorecard.
The Tornado squads are slated to play at McKenzie on Monday.
