Union City, Tenn.–The Union City High School volleyball team fought back from a two-game deficit to beat visiting Ripley 3-2 Monday night.
The Lady Tornadoes improved to 5-1 on the season with the comeback triumph.
UC won 25-16, 25-20 and 15-11 after dropping the first two games 25-19 and 25-5.
Abby Suiter had 22 kills and 10 blocks to spearhead the Purple and Gold charge. Anna Cheatham was credited with 21 kills, Kaigan Davis had 20, Raegan Taylor was good for 19 and Marlee Johnson finished with 16.
Setting for those hitters was provided by Samantha George, Erin Oatsvall and Emma Powell.
Johnson, Sara Ullrich, Annie Wade, Chloe Pritchard and George all were instrumental with solid passing in the match.
Union City also won the jayvee match, with 25-17 and 25-21 victories.
Cheatham (8 kills) and Lainey Barker (7 kills) carried the offense, while Morgan Palmer, Rose Lopez and Powell provided solid defense.
The Lady Tornadoes will play twice more this week, tonight at 6 vs. visiting Gibson County and Thursday at Halls with the jayvee match starting at 5 p.m.

Twisters fall at McKenzie
Union City’s two teams came out on the short end of a match at Carroll Lake Golf Course against host McKenzie.
UC shot 178 to McKenzie’s 162 in boys’ play and 116 to the Lady Rebels’ 75.
Carter Walton’s 42 represented the Tornadoes’ best individual score. Mason Reed shot 43, Nolan Chandler came in with a 46 and Reese Paschall registered a 47. Gabriel Qualls finished with a 53.
South Fulton was third in the three-way team match, shooting 207.
The Union City girls’ total trailed McKenzie and Huntingdon, which came in with a 103.
Mimi Jenkins shot 50, Molly Kizer finished with a 56 and Addi Hooks came in with a 60 for the Twister girls.
The Union City squads are scheduled to play again today at Sharon.
