Paris, Tenn.–All the hard training is paying off for Henry County Sheriff Cpl. Dalton Watson and his K9 Jagr, who sniffed out drugs at two separate traffic stops Sunday.

In the incidents, Elijah Gray, age 36, of Big Sandy, and Diann Hicks, age 29, of Camden, were arrested on drug charges, with Hicks charged with possession of meth and both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the second incident, Christina Powell, age 31, of Lexington, also was charged with possession of meth.

According to Watson’s report, he observed a black Pontiac Grand Am with a broken headlight and when Gray saw the patrol car, he put the car in reverse and sped backward in a motel parking lot. Watson noted he recognized the car as one which had fled from him the night before (the car had a Kentucky tag which did not match the car).

After Gray refused the request to search the car, Jagr alerted to the presence of drugs. In the subsequent search, 12.45 grams of meth was found, along with a spoon with meth residue, loaded syringes and dollar bills with meth residue.

Gray also was charged with driving on a revoked license.

In the other incident, Powell was arrested at the intersection of Mineral Wells and Tyson Avenues, charged with possession of meth after 5.2 grams of meth was found in her car. In his report, Watson said he pulled her vehicle over and observed her reaching under the driver’s seat. She told officers she was searching for her cell phone but then stood up showing a closed fist. She was ordered to open her hand and Watson found marijuana in her hand.

Again, Jagr alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Officers found meth and two glass pipes under her seat.

Powell’s bond is set at $50,000.
