McKenzie, Tenn.–A new chapel is under construction on the McKenzie campus of Bethel University. Bethel President Walter Butler said dirt work for construction is underway adjacent to the Vera Low Center. It will seat approximately 1,200 persons and have some removable seating to accommodate many uses for the facility with capacity for the entire on-campus student body. Construction time is anticipated at one year, said Butler.

The McKenzie Municipal Regional Planning Commission gave the green light for Bethel to move forward on the construction. The planning commission meet via ZOOM with Butler and consultants from Studio Four Design of Knoxville, Tennessee.

According to the approved site plan, it is a $4.2 million multi-level project.
