McKenzie, Tenn.–An eight-year-old boy lost his life in a Wednesday night fire in rural Weakley County Wednesday night.
The McKenzie Fire & Rescue got the call around 11 p.m. Wednesday and by the time they arrived, the two-story frame house at 1280 Blooming Grove was fully involved in fire.
Battalion Chief Jason Arnold said when the EMS personnel arrived, they took control of the boy and his injuries, first transporting him to Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon. The boy was airlifted to an area hospital where he passed away.
The home was destroyed and the family lost everything in the blaze.
A tanker shuttle was set up to fight the fire, with mutual aid from Gleason Fire Department and Pillowville Fire Department. Tankers from all three fire departments were utilized. Carroll County and Weakley County EMS units were also on the scene.
Arnold said there were no more injuries. The fire occurred near McKenzie, but was in an Amish community in Weakley County.
