Nashville, Tenn.–Metro Nashville Police, FBI & ATF are investigating the 6:30 a.m. explosion on 2nd Ave N linked to a vehicle.
According to Metro Nashville’s Twitter feed, “This appears to have been an intentional act. Law enforcement is closing downtown streets as investigation continues.”
At a 10 a.m. briefing, Don Aaron of Metro Nashville said sweeps are occuring to ensure there are no additional sources of explosions. He said earlier an RV parked in the middle of the street exploded while the bomb squad was on the way to investigate the report of a suspicious vehicle.
Extensive damage was caused to downtown buildings and at least three people were transported to hospitals, Aaron said at an early morning briefing.
Governor Bill Lee tweeted, “Early this morning, an explosion occurred in downtown Nashville around Second Avenue and Commerce Street. Federal, state and local law enforcement partners are on the scene to investigate what we believe was an intentional act. We will supply all of the resources needed to determine what happened and who was responsible. Please join Maria Lee and me in praying for those who were injured and we thank all of our first responders who acted so quickly this morning.”
