Second Fire Of The Day Extinguished In Mansfield

Mansfield, Tenn.–It’s been a busy day for the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Department.

As we reported earlier, the fire department and Forestry Service put out a fire that burned over 10 acres of woods early this morning.

This afternoon, firefighters responded to 950 French Rd., where the homeowner had been burning something in a burn barrel and the fire escaped, threatening the home. Assistant Chief Darren Webb said one engine, one tanker and a brush truck responded from Mansfield and the Forestry Service also responded.

Webb reminded the public not to burn outside when conditions are dry and windy as they are now. “This case was an accident; a bag blew out and it set fire to the ground. The fire went all the way around the house and was getting close to the property,” he said.

He also reminded everyone to make sure they have a burn permit if they plan to burn debris or brush outside. Anyone in rural Henry County now has to receive their burn permits from the Forestry Service, he said.
