Paris, Tenn.– Helping Hand and Paris BPU. Both are organizations with a long and rich history in Paris and Henry County. With the Covid-19 pandemic leading to the cancellation of the traditional annual Helping Hand Radio Auction, and the Helping Hand Board creatively working to put together a successful auction in this unique environment, Paris BPU was eager to get involved.

As we reported last week, Paris BPU has committed to match community donations up to $20,000 from January 4 to January 18 using pandemic relief funds that have already been provided by TVA.

In addition, TVA has initiated a second round of funding for the Community Care Fund which provides $10,000 in local match funds for local power company communities like Paris and Henry County.

Combining the $20,000 from Paris BPU, $20,000 from the community and $10,000 from TVA, Helping Hand would receive a total of $50,000 to kick-start their 2021 fundraising efforts.

“We are incredibly grateful that TVA has opened up a second round of funding for the Community Care Fund to help those who have been hit the hardest by this crisis,” said Paris BPU President & CEO Terry Wimberley. “To partner with our community to help us obtain these matching funds is a true testament to the heart and spirit of giving in our community. Our goal is that through Helping Hand, many families will find blessings in this unified effort.”

There are several ways for individuals to get involved in the match campaign. Donations can be made to the special Helping Hand account at Commercial Bank; sent via check to P.O. Box 22, Paris, TN 38242; or through Venmo, to @HenryCounty-HelpingHand.

“In the spirit of public power, we are honored to partner with local power companies to address the unprecedented challenges facing those we serve,” said Jeannette Mills, TVA Executive Vice President and Chief External Relations Officer. “TVA has a mission of service to make life better for the people of the Valley and providing these funds to address immediate needs is one way we can help ease the burdens on families and communities.”
