Paris, Tenn.–Henry County Circuit Court Clerk Mike Wilson and Chancery Court Clerk & Master Mary Burns have jointly announced the extension of the order to suspend jury trials and in-person court proceedings (with some exceptions) through Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

This suspension follows an order filed January 15, 2021 by the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Court clerk offices will remain open but jury trials and in-person court proceedings will be suspended except for some exceptions outlined in the order, Wilson said.

“This order applies to state and local courts,” according to Wilson. “We are continuing to limit the public’s exposure to the virus while continuing essential court functions. This simply means we will continue to operate our court clerk business offices but will not hold in-person court sessions unless they are within the Tennessee Supreme Court’s exceptions or a judge’s discretion.”

Pursuant to the Supreme Court order, no jury trials will be heard in Henry County Circuit Court during February and March.  Circuit Court will hear certain non-jury, civil & criminal matters during this time period.  Parties with specific questions should contact their attorneys.

Henry County General Sessions Civil & Criminal Court dockets scheduled through Wednesday, March 31, 2021, have been canceled with the exceptions as allowed by the order.

All Henry County Juvenile Court dockets scheduled through Wednesday, March 31, 2021, have been canceled with the exceptions as allowed by the order.

Henry County Chancery and Probate Court dockets scheduled for motion days on February 1 & 18, and March 1 & 18, 2021, have been suspended for “in-person court proceedings,” according to Burns.

With any court matters regardless of the court, if you are represented by an attorney, please contact your attorney for further information. If you are not represented by an attorney, you may call the appropriate court clerk’s office.

Wilson said, “If you have any questions about an upcoming court date, please follow up with your attorney or call the appropriate court clerk’s office.  We will be glad to assist you.”

Each court clerk is trying to maintain normal office hours but if the situation should change, Wilson said, “we will make those changes known through the local media and other outlets available to us. Our goal is to keep the offices open but honor the order of the Tennessee Supreme Court to help ensure the safety of our citizens.”
