Paris, Tenn.–Completion of the new roof on the Henry County Courthouse has encountered a delay.
Workers with the Wade Dortch Roofing Co. of Paris encountered gutter issues recently while they’ve been installing a new roof on the 125-year-old courthouse.
Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway said he went up in one of the lifts being utilized by the roofers to reach the roof of the historic three-story structure to see the progress and check on the gutters.
“The project is about 90 percent complete right now,” Ridgeway said, “and when they get the gutter issues fixed, we’ll be all done.”
The project began in December and was projected to be completed by the end of February.

The roofers are using two 36,000 pound lifts for the project. The lifts are being moved around the courthouse to allow the roofers to work on different spots on the roof and Ridgeway said they are taking care to cause as little damage to the brick walkways around the building as possible. “We asked them to put the lifts on the ground instead of the walkways as much as they can,” he said.

The Courthouse was constructed in 1896. As we reported Friday, repairs also are being planned for the clock in the Courthouse Tower.
